I think its time for sharing some findings now where I have been playing around with NAV 2017 for a day or two.
Lets start with taking a look on the changes in the Administration Console.
On the first view you notice three new tabs:
- Azure Active Directory (Azure AD)
- Task Scheduler
- Reports
Let us take a look on each tab, starting from the top – since the three new tabs is not all that has changed.
General
There are not many changes here:
- Azure Active Directory App ID URI has moved from General tab to the Azure Active Directory Tab
- Credential Type has new options: ExchangeIdentity and TaskScheduler
- Report PDF Font Embedding has moved to the Reports Tab
Database
New fields has been added:
- Enable Data Export/Import From the Application has been added.
Enables the use of the EXPORTDATA and IMPORTDATA functions from the application code. - Enable Deadlock Monitoring has been added.
Specifies if you want to monitor for deadlocks.
Client Services
One field is moved and two has been added:
- Federation Metadata Location has moved from the General tab to the Azure Active Directory Tab and is now called WS Federation Metadata Location
- Exchange Auth. Metadata Location has been added.
Specifies the URL for the Exchange authentication metadata document of the authority that is allowed to sign the Exchange Identity Token. - Use the simplified filters has been added.
Specifies if this instance uses simplified filters that are case sensitive and limit search to the start of field.
SOAP Services
No changes
ODATA Services
New fields has been added:
- Enable add in annotations
Specifies whether Excel add in annotations should be provided in OData metadata. - Enable V3 Endpoint
Specifies whether the ODataV3 service endpoint will be enabled. - Enable V4 Endpoint
Specifies whether the ODataV4 service endpoint will be enabled.
NAS Services
The field Retry Attempts Per Day has been removed
Management Services
No changes
Azure Key Vault Encryption Provider
Fields are the same, only the labels has changed. AzureKeyVault has been removed from the labels.
Azure Active Directory (Azure AD)
This is a new Tab containing the fields:
- Application Client Certificate Thumbprint
Specifies the thumbprint of the x509 certificate that is used with the Azure AD application client for authentication. - Application Client ID
Specifies the ID of the application tenant. The ID is used when accessing data in Azure AD. - Application Client Secret
The Secret is going to be used with Application Client ID for AAD authentication. - Azure AD App ID URI
Specifies the App ID URI that is registered for Dynamics NAV in the Azure AD tenant.
- Enable Membership Entitlement
Configures the server instance to use membership entitlement.
- Excel add-in AAD client app ID
Specifies the Excel add-in Azure Active Directory client app ID to use for authentication.
- WS-Federation Login Endpoint
Specifies the URL for the federation sign-on page that Dynamics NAV redirects to when configured for Single Sign-On.
- WS-Federation Metadata Location
Specifies the URL for the federation metadata document that describes the configuration information for your Azure AD tenant.
Task Scheduler
This is a new Tab containing the fields:
- Enable Task Scheduler
Specifies whether the server instance starts with the Task Scheduler enabled. - Maximum concurrent running tasks
The maximum number of tasks running concurrent on the server
Reports
This is a new Tab containing the fields:
- Enable Save as Excel on Request Pages of RDLC-layout Reports
Specifies whether users can open or save a report that is based on an RDLC layout as Microsoft Excel document from the report request page. If you clear this check box, the Excel option is removed from the Print menu on the request page. - Enable Save as Word on Request Pages of RDLC-layout Reports
Specifies whether users can open or save a report that is based on an RDLC layout as Microsoft Word document from the report request page. - Enable Save from Report Preview
Specifies whether users can save a report as a PDF, Microsoft Word, or Microsoft Excel document from the report preview window.
- Report PDF Font Embedding
Specifies whether fonts are embedded in PDF files that are generated for reports. The setting applies to reports that are run server-side and client-side.
